This was the first one in the set that I began painting I was attracted to the colors the very soft pink and periwinkle in the background really attracted me and I applied those in big brushstrokes and I allowed that to dry and then I painted the back of an aluminum can black and I printed it onto the canvas.
This was just me having a lot of fun with playing with the texture of the water and the paint I had a lot of fun using bright colors and and then the final product is what I felt was a marvel of the watercolors drying into and setting themselves into place. A lot of times with watercolor it’s when it’s wet, it looks one way when it dries it turns into something completely different and this one was that. I remember the feeling of excitement I had when I was painting this so I called this New Morning Sun because of the bright yellow colors and the hope that I felt as I was kindling my love for painting.
Funny enough this was also the first piece that I sold at a performance that I did at the Pulitzer Arts St Louis on November 15, 2025.
